abstract = "This paper systematizes the main results of the phase 2.2 of the original grounded theory “surviving the streets” (GT-ST). Primarily the paper includes a brief description of the main phases of this original theory and its major distinctive features, emphasizing its similarities with other scientific theoretical and research contemporary studies. The method section includes a summary of participants’ characterization [homeless (n = 38), professionals (n = 47) and previously homeless (n = 11)], instruments (observation approaches, interview scripts) and procedures [observation of street intervention by social workers (n=434), documental analysis (e.g., documents produced by homeless people, technical documentation produced by social workers) and interview protocols, ethical guidelines]. The third section comprises the explanation of subphase 2.2. Assuming the designation of “experiencing the limits of survival” this subphase comprises the most difficult experiences adults face during the entire duration of homelessness trajectory. After presenting its main problems/preoccupations, the paper summarizes the most prevalent behaviors and discursive patterns, accentuating the components that distinguish this specific period of homelessness trajectory from the other (sub)phases that form the theory “surviving the streets”. Additionally, the paper addresses its key challenges, most prevalent difficulties/barriers and the exposed expectations, fears and opportunities mentioned by professionals and (pervious) homeless adults. The last section examines the implications for further research and intervention considering the specificities of this specific subphase.",
