HENRY JAMES IN CONTEMPORARY WORKS

  • Onofrei, P. A.
Abstract:
Known as a modernist writer, Henry James proved to be an inspiring personality that became a character in the works of several contemporary writers that we are going to present. Why did this famous artist of words - who had a dull life – become so challenging for nowadays producers of literature? How can this phenomenon be explained? To what extent can we say that literature reflects biography? What are the features of Henry James portrayed by David Lodge, Emma Tennant, Colm Toibin, Alan Hollinghurst, Michiel Heyns, Gore Vidal and Paula Marantz Cohen? These are the main questions which we have tried to provide an answer for.
