THE POPULATION PERCEPTION ON THE QUALITY OF LIFE WITHIN BOTOSANI TOWN

Burlacu, A.; Efros, V.
Abstract:
Nowadays the phenomenon of the urbanization is passing through an intensification process. As a result, by increasing the pressure on space, the local administration must firmly respond to the demands of an increasingly population requirements. Thus, the quality of life becomes a concept that measures resident’s appreciation of living standards, in relation to the environment’s characteristics and personal well-being. In this context, the present work, referring to the perception of the quality of life by the population of Botosani Town, follows the urban space issue as it is perceived by the population. Botosani Town is located in the NE of Romania, the Moldavian region, with a 40, 1 km? aria and 106.847 inhabitants, being the most important town in Botosani County. The research on quality of life was based on a questionnaire applied to a sample of 200 respondents. The application has been achieved either by tablet, face-to-face method, for 100 people, or by submitting the questionnaire online and by filling in the individual. The questionnaire included 39 items that gathered information about: socio-demographic characteristics, material resources, living conditions, workplace, service use, urban environment quality. The information gathered has been systematized from the individual to the general so as to follow a certain logic. The most important feature of the quality of life concept is that it offers people the opportunity to evaluate certain aspects of their lives. The collected data were statistically analyzed and interpreted. Moreover, it was possible to create a cartographic support to visualize, the population’s perception regarding the safety in the town perimeter. As a general conclusion, the research reveals mostly a negative perception of the quality of life. The main sectors that influenced this decision of the population are: the transport infrastructure, the architectural aspect of some patrimony buildings, the degree of economic development, the quality of the medical services and the services provided by the local administration. Moreover, perceptions, assessments, and satisfaction expressed by respondents, provide the opportunity for local administration to observe life from the population’s perspective and to improve some of the aspects.
