EDUCATIONAL CHALLENGES IN CHOSING THE FACULTY OF STUDYING – CASE STUDY FOR THE STUDENTS FROM REPUBLIC OF KOSOVA

Making the decision for the future studies is one of the most challenging things on the student’s life. Identifying the factors of influence to this decision making process is of the big importance for the communities and also for the Universities. In this research we are investigated the challenges of the high school students in Republic of Kosova in choosing the faculty of their studying, identifying of the basic factors of influence to this decision making process as well as analyzing the characteristics of these factors of influence. We have investigated the factors of influencing, the obstacles, the barriers and the dependence between different categories. To identify the factors that have greater weight in choosing the direction of studies by students, 1345 high school students in the Republic of Kosova were surveyed using a questionnaire prepared for this purpose. These data provided descriptive information, quantitative and statistical interpretation. The statistical analysis of the data is made by using the SPSS software. Findings from this study indicate that a significant number of factors are taken into account by students during this process. To analyze the hypothesis defined on this research we have used the cross-tabulation method in order to identify the dependencies and the factors with the considerable impact. The chi-square test is used to test the independence of some categorical variables. By identifying the basic factors of influence, we give some recommendations in order to prepare the students and make this decision process easier for them.
